Online Resources for Phase 2 and 3 Participants

The Lead to Win website has a growing base of resources available to all Phase 2 and 3 participants.

Participants are encouraged to contribute to the resources and share their knowledge.

Training Materials Freely Available

All presentations are available for viewing and download on the website from the link “Training Materials”.

These documents may be freely shared with your peers, friends and customers.

You are encouraged to aggressively share these materials with anyone and everyone! You are also free to make money off the materials as long as you provide attribution of the source.

Dynamic Documentation and Reference Materials

When you are logged in to the Lead to Win website, you have the ability to edit and extend the documentation in any direction you feel is appropriate. For example, if you have done some research to look at available eCommerce solutions – feel free to create a new page and share your research with the Lead to Win community. You may find that others can offer additional information and you will certainly end up helping one of your peers.

All dynamic documentation is available on the website under “Documentation”. Note that you can select a page to monitor and the website will send you an email when the page is updated or changed.

Questions, Answers, Discussion

If you have questions for the Lead to Win group (no need to be shy!) – please use the “Community Forum” to post and answer questions.

The Forum can also be used to engage in general discussions of interest.

This forum will also provide useful information to future participants in the program.

All information on free offers for Lead to Win participants are posted in this online forum under the topic “How do I access the free service offers available to Lead to Win participants?”

Finding Team Members/Finding a Team to Join

If you are interested in connecting with others to find volunteers for your team – feel free to try “Team Connections”. It’s use is pretty straight-forward – post a job you have open and the nature of the job, e.g. volunteer, full time, part time, advisor.

Let us know what you think and any suggestions you have to make the job board more useful.

On a related note, we are also looking for someone who would be willing to be the volunteer administrator for the Lead to Win job board – tasks include monitoring postings, ensuring proper categorizations are configured, identifying future code enhancements, etc. – generally a low effort job.

Note that the job board software is open source that has been enhanced by Lead to Win. If anyone feels they can use the source-code for commercial gain – go for it.

Publicizing Your Company for Free on Lead to Win

If you are interested, please send your banner ad (.png format, 468×60 pixels) and the link you want a click to go to – to lead@leadtowin.ca.

Happy Birthday OSBR.ca!

Happy birthday OSBR.ca!

It is with great pride that we celebrate the start of the third year of the OSBR.ca (www.osbr.ca).

Twenty five months ago, the Talent First Network published the first issue of the OSBR.ca. The objective was to accelerate the adoption of open source assets and the commercialization of market offers that rely on these assets.

The success of the OSBR.ca is due to a large number of very special people. The readers of the OSBR.ca grew from 400 to 10,000 a month. They contributed ideas for topics, referred us to great content, and pushed us to do the right things. Plans to increase readership ten times over the next three years depend on our existing readers. We start by thanking the readers of the OSBR.ca for their contribution to its success.

Dru Lavigne has been the editor of the OSBR.ca since day one. Her passion for the OSBR is contagious. Month after month Dru quietly makes things happen. She is a very talented professional and a pleasure to work with. She is a star who has made an enormous contribution to the success of the OSBR. Thank you Dru from the bottom of our hearts!

A total of 163 authors contributed articles to the first 25 issues of the OSBR.ca. Without the commitment of these excellent authors, the OSBR would not exist today. Thank you OSBR authors! The guest editors and the OSBR Advisory Board include talented and opinionated people who have worked hard to make the OSBR.ca the high quality publication it is today. The guest editors and the Board members attract talented authors worldwide, demand good content, provide insightful comments, reject poor articles and continuously push us to improve everything that we do. Thank you guest editors and members of the OSBR Advisory Board!

We thank two special people, Bill Mantel and Brad DeFoe, from the Ontario Ministry of Research and Innovation. They made the difficult decision of investing in the new world of open source when very few people in Ontario knew of the huge impact that open source would soon have on many of our product markets. Thanks Bill and Brad!

Last, but not least, we thank the faculty and the students of the Technology Innovation Management and the Department of System and Computer Engineering at Carleton University. Their support for and contributions to the OSBR.ca are very much appreciated.

Congratulations to all for the success of the OSBR.ca. Happy 2nd birthday!

Results of Day 6 Opportunity Assessments

Greetings,

Each group should have received an email with the results of the Day 6 Opportunity Assessment. If you have not received this email, please contact me immediately (613 829 8885 or bailetti@sce.carleton.ca).

1. Of the 39 opportunities examined on Day 6, 19 were rated GREEN (49%), 11 YELLOW (28%) and 9 RED (23%).

2. Seven opportunities were rated GREEN by all the reviewers in the group that examined them.

Join me in congratulating the 9 individuals who proposed these 7 all-GREEN opportunities:

  • Mike Ayukama
  • Eric Dumont
  • Dan Gagliardi and Anthony Rizk
  • James Irwin and Maciek Kozlowski
  • Kostyantyn Komutov
  • Jeff McAffer
  • Michael McNutty

3. Tonight we welcome 39 individuals with 30 business opportunities to LTW Phase III.

4. To those who did not make it into Phase III tonight, I encourage you to first improve your business opportunities and then request that they be re-assessed.  Alternatively, you can join another LTW start up or reapply to the LTW program proposing a different business opportunity. You are encouraged to pursue your entrepreneurial dream and I very much look forward to welcoming you to Phase III in the near future.

Good night and Happy Canada Day!

Regards.

Tony B.
